A major energy enterprise operating large-scale wind farms across southwestern China faced critical challenges with turbine icing during winter months. In high-altitude regions with low temperatures and high humidity, freezing rain leads to significant ice accumulation on wind turbine blades. This results in increased structural fatigue, reduced equipment lifespan, lower energy output, and serious safety concerns for the wind farm.
To ensure continued operation in freezing conditions, regular anti-icing measures are essential. However, traditional de-icing methods—such as manually dislodging ice with tools on elevated platforms—are inefficient, labor-intensive, and pose high safety risks. In search of a scalable, intelligent solution, the company aimed to prevent icing proactively and improve operational reliability across its sites.
